Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
How often should a residential mattress be cleaned and sanitized?
Dust mites thrive on the skin flakes we shed every night. The recommended service interval is once every six months. In cases where a person suffers from severe allergies or asthma, we recommend servicing the mattress once every three months.
Why can't I just vacuum my own mattress?
Traditional household or commercial vacuums do not have the extraction power to remove the highly resilient dust mites, bacteria, allergy triggering contaminants and other harmful debris that are deeply embedded in the mattress. And, they do not incorporate the all important germ killing UV-C Germicidal lamp, the key to effective disinfection and sterilization. In addition, most standard household vacuums are designed primarily for use on carpets and therefore the stiff bristles embedded in the rotating brush may cause serious damage to the mattress surface as well as other upholstered items.
How long does it take to service a mattress?
This depends upon the size of the mattress. For example, a king-sized mattress takes approximately 20-minutes. A queen-sized mattress takes 18-minutes. You may reduce this time by 2-minutes for every size reduction from queen-size down.
Will the process of sanitizing a mattress or upholstered item be messy?
The Hygienitech process is completely green and environmentally friendly. There are no liquids or nasty chemicals used in the sanitation process and beds can be remade 10 minutes after the service is completed. Since there are no chemicals or perfumes used, it is not necessary to air out the room.
How do I know if a mattress is in need of sanitizing?
Sooner EnviroPure has developed a simple 5-minute testing procedure that will clearly show the level of contamination present.
Can mattress cleaning and sanitizing cure my allergy?
No, it doesn't offer any cure to pre-existing allergies, but it will help to reduce the severity and frequency of allergy attacks. Many of our customers have found that their particular allergy disappears altogether and the need for regular medication is eliminated. In the case of asthmatics, about 85% of sufferers are allergic to House Dust Mite droppings, so the chance of us helping an asthma sufferer is very high. We have received numerous letters from asthma sufferers telling us that they are enjoying a better night's sleep and have become less dependent on their breathing aids when waking up in the morning.
What's in your spray and what does it do?
The spray is made from a totally renewable plant source. There are no chemicals or perfumes in it and it is non-toxic and non hazardous. It is a highly effective deodorizing and sanitizing spray that neutralizes and renders harmless the airborne allergens created by dust mites. It is suitable for areas surrounding bedding, mattresses, draperies and any upholstered items.
How old does a mattress have to be before it is worthwhile cleaning it?
It has been found that a new mattress, if used on a regular basis, would benefit from a cleaning and sanitizing after as little as 6-months use.
Can an old mattress be cleaned effectively?
Yes, most definitely. Mattresses that are old will have much higher levels of dust mites and fecal droppings, dead skin, fungal spores, bacteria and germs. This will also apply to hand-me-down ones as well. Our process is extremely effective and will make them clean and fresh again.
Do protective mattress covers work?
There have been studies that show them not to work effectively. Also, from our experience, whenever we have tested a mattress with a protective cover, the mattress has always tested positive for contamination. However, if you already have them or you are intending to buy some, then only use them on a brand new mattress or one that has just been cleaned and sterilized by us. If you don't, all you are doing is incubating the contaminants that are already present.
Does the Hygienitech process eliminate Bed Bugs?
Hygienitech dealers are trained to eradicate bed bugs using our equipment and our specially developed, non-toxic procedure. If bedbugs are localized to the mattress.
